Recently, our Institution has received complaints indicating that unauthorized individuals who present themselves as Trademark Attorneys or Patent Attorneys have been calling applicants or registration holders by phone and attempting to deceive them through various scenarios, or sending letters that create the impression they originate from the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office and requesting various fees, as well as issuing invoice-like notifications.
TÜRKPATENT never calls any applicant to request payment or provide information. Communication is conducted exclusively through official written correspondence.
In order to prevent applicants from being victimized in such situations, it is recommended to follow the steps below:
1 - When you receive a suspicious request, you may call our Institution’s Interactive Information Service at (0312 303 1 303) to verify the status of your file and whether the requested fee is legitimate, and to obtain information regarding the suspicious request conveyed to you.
2 - If you are represented by a Trademark Attorney or Patent Attorney, you may contact your attorney to verify whether the requested fee is legitimate.
3 - You may investigate and verify whether individuals who present themselves as Trademark Attorneys or Patent Attorneys are in fact authorized by checking the link provided below.
4 - Even if they are Trademark Attorneys or Patent Attorneys, you may file a complaint with the Patent and Trademark Attorneys Disciplinary Board regarding those whose attitudes and conduct constitute a violation of the Professional Rules of Representation set out at the link below.
In suspicious cases, the public is respectfully advised not to establish any form of communication or business relationship with such individuals, and not to make any payments to any account.
