What Is a Trademark?

Trademark registration is the process of legally protecting a brand through official trademark registration. By registering a trademark, a company can prevent others from using the same or a similar mark in a way that may cause confusion among consumers.

A trademark may consist of any sign, including words (including personal names), shapes, colors, letters, numbers, sounds, and the form of goods or their packaging, provided that it enables the goods or services of one undertaking to be distinguished from those of other undertakings and can be represented in the registry in a clear and precise manner so that the scope of protection granted to the trademark owner can be clearly understood.

What Is a Patent?

Patent registration is one of the most important elements of intellectual, industrial, and property rights; it is an official document that demonstrates the protection of a registered invention and enables the identification and distinction of the producer and seller of the invention.

A patent is an official document and title that grants the product or invention owner exclusive rights in areas such as the sale, marketing, reproduction, and production of similar versions of the invented product. Machines, vehicles, devices, chemical compounds and processes, and all types of manufacturing methods fall within the scope of patent protection.

What Is a Design?

Design is the appearance of the whole or a part of a product, or the ornamentation on it, arising from features such as line, shape, form, color, material, or surface texture—namely, the visual characteristics formed by elements perceptible to human senses. In other words, design is the visual appearance of a product or a part of a product.

The visual innovations you create by introducing originality and distinction in two- or three-dimensional products constitute your designs. Designs are protected as a “registered design” when registered through an application to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, and as an “unregistered design” when they are first disclosed to the public in Türkiye.

What Is a Utility Model?

A Utility Model grants the owners of inventions that are new and industrially applicable in Türkiye and worldwide the right to produce and market the subject invention for a certain period (10 years). Compared to patent registration, the procedures for obtaining a utility model certificate are more advantageous in terms of both time and cost.
